Kakinada: Port City police have successfully nabbed a nine-member gang involved in printing of fake currency notes of 100 rupees denomination and so far recovered Rs. 27,200 worth fake notes. While four of them were arrested on November 29 itself and sent to remand, another five were arrested on Monday in a local lodge. Basing on interrogation of the arrested, a posse of police led by Inspector Balla Lakshmi Narayana and SI Padala Muralikrishna Reddy went to Kavitam village in the neighbouring West Godavari district overnight and seized a colour printer- cum-scanner-cum-copier machine along with 50 fake currency notes of Rs.100 denomination. They seized the paper and other printing material. Interestingly, one among the five arrested, Kadali Nagaraju, considered to be the kingpin, is a certificate holder in printing technology and facing trial in a similar case of Cyberabad police and had jumped bail. At a press conference here on Tuesday, the sub-divisional police officer S. He said that the police could track the movements of the gang and nabbed Kukkala Krishnamurthy (53), native of Devarapalli, Kollati Ramakrishna (33) of Penugonda and Kadali Nagaraju of Kavitam - all of West Godavari district and Kondeti Siva Prasad (37) of Machilipatnam, Krishna District while they were in a local lodge here.
Modus operandi
Explaining the modus operandi of the gang, he said Nagaraju had entered into a contract with Ramakrishna and Krishnamurthy and printed Rs. 1.74 lakh worth fake currency. It was given to others at three times the worth of genuine currency. When produced before mediapersons, all the five accused confessed the crime.
