DEDICATED SERVICE: Superintendent of Police B. Malla Reddy receiving guard of honour from the Home Guards contingent in connection with the Raising Day celebrations in Kurnool on Tuesday.
KURNOOL: Superintendent of Police B. Malla Reddy has said Home Guards, which had been raised to assist the Police Department, is now an integral part of the department. Addressing a gathering in connection with the 42nd Raising Day of the organisation on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy said the Police Department was heavily dependent on the Home Guards in discharging duties related to elections, traffic management and night patrol. He called upon Home Guards to inculcate discipline and be polite to the public. Mr. Reddy said the issue of enhancement of wages was under active consideration of the Government. Commandant of Home Guards Sudhakar Reddy said Home Guards has become a major employment provider. Deputy SP, Home Guards, Narasimhulu explained various welfare measures initiated for the staff. Additional SP Ravinder Reddy, and other officers distributed prizes to members. Later 20 Home Guards donated blood. KADAPA: Seven hundred and twenty one home guards are rendering services on par with regular police personnel in the district, Kadapa SP Y. Nagi Reddy said on Tuesday. Their number has gone up from 551 in the past in the district, he said after inspecting the parade at Police Parade Grounds.
The SP flagged off a rally by Home Guards from the DPO to RTC bus stand. Winners of several competitions were given prizes. Additional SP M. Lakshmi Reddy, OSD (Operations) John Wesley, Armed Reserve DSP Raghavendra Rao, Kadapa DSP M. Ramprasada Rao, Andhra Pradesh Police Officers Association district President N. Chandrasekhar Reddy, CIs, SIs and constables took part. Nellore: Additional Superintendent of Police D.V.S.S. Murthy lauded the efforts of Home Guards. The official was the chief guest at a function at the Police Parade Grounds. Earlier he took the salute at an impressive parade. Mr. Murthy later inaugurated a blood donation camp, where more than 40 Home Guards donated blood. There was a rally by the Home Guards in the main streets of the town.
