ONGOLE: Prakasam district has exceeded its target in construction of houses under various schemes and stood second in the State next only to Khammam. District Collector B. Udaya Lakshmi, who reviewed the performance at an official meeting here on Tuesday, said that the district achieved 103 per cent in house constructions. Under rural pucca housing scheme, the administration had sanctioned 15,860 houses as against the target of 16,588. Similarly, under urban housing programme, it has sanctioned 4,197 houses as against the target of 4,649 houses for this year. Ms. Udaya Lakshmi instructed officials to sanction the remaining houses by month-end. The administration constructed 3,588 houses under reserve quota, 772 houses for fishermen and 875 houses for handloom weavers to achieve cent per cent target. Under Rajiv Gruhakalpa scheme, the administration sanctioned 2,207 houses out of 4,000 houses allotted to Ongole, Chirala, Markapur and Kandukur municipalities. She asked the District Manager, Housing, Panduranga Rao, to expedite selection of beneficiaries under the scheme.
