ONGOLE: Superintendent of Police N. Balasubramanyam has appreciated home guards for playing vital role in assisting the police. Addressing a meeting got up to mark 42nd Home Guards Raising Day, he said that it was founded mainly as a service organisation. But home guards now did all duties of police except investigation. Home guards were given 15 per cent reservation and two years relaxation in age limit when they came for selection as constables, he said. The SP handed over shields to the home guards selected as best in each of the five divisions in the district. He also handed over a cheque for Rs. 16,000 to the kin of Sreenivasarao, a home guard who died of heart attack at Chirala last year. Home guards in Chirala division contributed their one- day honorarium to the family. Mr. Subramanyam too contributed his one-day salary and asked home guards of other divisions too to contribute their mite.
Blood donation
A blood donation camp was organised on the occasion where 60 home guards donated their blood. A rally was taken out to mark the occasion.
