KOCHI : A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Tuesday directed that the observer appointed for the SNDP Yogam elections can verify the voters' list and take steps to prevent bogus voting in the polls to be conducted on December 31, 2005. The Division Bench, comprising Justice R. Bhaskaran and M. Sasidharan Nambiar, ruled that O. Ramachandran Nambiar, who had been appointed as the observer (advocate commissioner) for the SNDP Yogam polls can examine and verify that voters' list and ensure that the voters who came to exercise their right to vote were the members of the SNDP Yogam. The commissioner could, if necessary, insist on demanding the identity proof for the voters. The Bench made the ruling on an appeal filed by Susheelan ofKarunagappally against a ruling of the Principal Sub-Court, Kollam, dismissing the petition regarding the Yogam polls. He had requested the court to direct the Yogam and secretary Vellappally Natesan to elect office-bearers of the Yogam and to convene the annual general body meeting of the Yogam before December 31.
