Seminar on cochlear implant on Saturday

MANGALORE: The Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Kasturba Medical College, will organise a cochlear implant education programme at Sushrutha Hall, KMC Hospital, Attavar, here on Saturday.

A press release from Kishore Chandra Prasad, professor and Head of Department of Otolaryngology, here said that cochlear implant technology and its application is rapidly advancing.

Over 75,000 individuals including over 35,000 children are using cochlear implants worldwide and over 1,000 clinics are offering cochlear implants to those in the younger age group.

In India, over 700 individuals have benefited from nucleus cochlear implants at over 20 leading institutions.

Karnataka has 60 nucleus cochlear implant users.

The seminar will cover different aspects such as candidacy criteria, new developments, surgical aspects and rehabilitation.
