HYDERABAD: A meeting of the Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled States would be held at New Delhi on December 12 to take a final decision on implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) in these States. Party vice-president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, told reporters here on Tuesday that there had been certain objections to the implementation of VAT by the BJP earlier. Since some of them have been addressed subsequently, the party wanted to review the position with its Chief Ministers before taking a decision on the implementation in its own States. Besides the Chief Ministers of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chattisgarh, the BJP Ministers in States where the party is a coalition partner, including Bihar, Orissa and Nagaland, would also attend the meeting. It would be inaugurated by BJP president L.K. Advani, while former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee would attend the valedictory session.
Antyodaya
Mr. Naidu said the meeting would also discuss the `antyodaya' concept of the uplift of weaker sections, infiltration from Bangladesh, seriousness of extremism and naxalism and extension of the Gujarat Government's ban on cow slaughter to other BJP-ruled States in the light of a Supreme Court judgement. Mr. Naidurefused to answer questions on the expulsion of Uma Bharti saying that she was no longer in the party.
