Commodity prices

The following were the rates (Rs. per kg) of essential commodities in local wholesale market on Tuesday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce & Industry: Groundnut oil-49.50, Palmolein oil-39, Sunflower oil-49.50, Tamarind (flower variety)-21 to 28, Tamarind (karipuli variety)-42 to 48, Chillies (refrigerated)-25 to 30, Chillies (non-refrigerated)-10 to 15, Rice 2716-13, Rice super fine-15, Rice Sona Masuri 16 to 16.50, Black gram (Pottu Minappappu)-33.50, and Red gram (Kandipappu) desavali-22.

Drive against

child labour

A special drive taken up against child labour in the Autonagar industrial area has led to freeing of 43 children, who were later admitted to Navajeevan Bala Vikas Kendra. The drive was jointly taken up by the Krishna Child Labour Education Programme, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and Forum for Child Rights. The children who were freed from work would be admitted to special schools, according to senior coordinator of Navajeevan Bala Vikas Kendra.

Good show in

ICWAI exam

Vijay Gilda and G. Raja from city have secured first and sixth ranks in the Inter examination of the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) held in June, according to Superwhizz, the coaching institute for CA and ICWAI examinations. The Superwhizz said in a press release that it was for the ninth time a student of the institute had secured first rank at the all India level either in the CA or ICWAI examinations.

Dalit Darbar

The Dalit Bahujan Front will hold `Dalit Darbar' in front of Sub-Collector's office on December 10 as part of similar darbars being held across the State on that day. The darbars are being held to highlight several problems of the dalits in the State, including pending cases of atrocities against them.
