CITU members retrieve two bodies

Staff Reporter

TAMBARAM: Members of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) retrieved the bodies of two men who were washed away in the floodwaters from the Tirumudivakkam Industrial Estate.

While the body of one the victims was washed ashore near the boundary of the estate, the body of a security guard of a private agency was found trapped in the Adyar river.

Fishermen and the organisation's members in Neelankarai arranged for a boat and helped in the rescue of at least 40 people stranded in the industrial estate.

M.S. Rajendran of the CITU auto drivers wing and B. Kumar, district vice president were among the 60-odd members of the union who went around the industrial estate premises and rescued people.

There was more than six feet of water initially inside the sprawling premises of the estate and rescuing the stranded people was not an easy task, they said.
