Man robbed on Ennore Expressway

CHENNAI: An employee of a steel agency was robbed of Rs. 5.86 lakhs on Ennore Expressway on Monday night.

Police said the victim, R. Navakumar (24), employed by a steel company with its office at the Toll Gate area, was returning from Hosur on Monday night. After reaching Parrys Corner in a bus, he took a share autorickshaw to reach his house at Periya Kasi Viswanathakuppam in Ennore.

He reached the Ennore Expressway around 9.50 p.m. and was heading towards home when four persons on two motorcycles barred his way, and tried to snatch the bag containing the cash.

When Mr. Navakumar resisted, the gang attacked him with a long knife. Mr. Navakuamar sustained knife injuries on his stomach.

When the information reached the owner of the steel company, he rushed him to a private hospital in Tondiarpet.

A senior police officer said Mr. Navakumar was out of danger and was able to speak to investigating officials.
