Poor response to student scheme

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The ban on use of cellular phones inside engineering colleges and some universities is proving to be a dampener in Chennai for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's popular `Student Power-99' mobile scheme.

The response to the scheme, which re-opened for registration on Thursday, has not been good, said K.B. Brahmadathan, chief general manager, Chennai Telephones.

One reason was the ban imposed by some colleges and universities on use of mobiles. The scheme, with a monthly rental of Rs.99, had been reopened for a month.
