BANGALORE: Mayor Mumtaz Begum has said that she was not allowed to garland Ambedkar's statue along with the Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh on Tuesday when the 49th death anniversary of the late leader was observed. Stating that she will write a "protest letter" to the Deputy Director (Protocol), Ms. Begum said: "I do not want to make an issue of this. I will only bring the violation [of protocol] to the notice of the officials so that they do not repeat it." Ms. Begum's name did not figure in the list of dignitaries too. The Chief Minister's office telephoned her asking her to attend the function. When she reached the venue, the policemen and the protocol officials reportedly asked her to get off the trolley being used by the Chief Minister, as it could not carry more than three persons. However, the Mayor managed to get onto the trolley after some Ministers intervened. But she could not garland Ambedkar's statue as the Chief Minister had already garlanded it.
