Bangalore: The police put up road barricades at several locations in an effort to catch a gang of three which had robbed a jeweller in Malleswaram of Rs. 10 lakhs in cash on Tuesday. The jeweller, Rakesh (35), who was riding his motorcycle on 8th Cross, Malleswaram, was stopped by the gang members who threw chilly powder on his face and hit him with a club before taking away the cash kept in a bag, the police said. By the time he recovered, the gang fled on a black motorbike, he told the police. Rakesh, who has his jewellery shop in Yeshwantpur, was on his way to Avenue Road when the incident occurred. He was carrying the money to purchase a stock of jewellery. He registered a complaint with Malleswaram Police who sent a message to the city control room and all patrol vehicles were alerted. The police then began erecting roadblocks in several areas, including Bhagwan Mahaveer (Infantry Road) Road, and began stopping those going on motorcycles of the model described by the jeweller. The police also circulated descriptions of the three men given by the jeweller. Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) M.C. Narayana Gowda said, "We suspect the involvement of a known gang in this robbery going by the method used and the description given. We are yet to get any lead on where the gang might have gone but are on the alert with the police in all divisions in the city on watch.'' The jeweller is recovering from his injuries in a private hospital.
