Bangalore: It was another day packed with events for Bangalore Habba. Among the highlights of the programmes on Tuesday was the concert by Sikkil Sisters and Mala Chandrasekhar at Ambedkar Bhavan. The Sikkil Sisters from Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu are well known in the world of Carnatic music and have performed in many countries such as the U.S., Canada, Singapore, Malaysia and Mauritius. Mala Chandrasekhar is a flautist of repute. The evening also saw the Bharatanatyam performance by the veteran Chitra Visveswaran at the Shankara Foundation on Kanakapura Road and Kathak performance by Aditi Mangaldas at the JSS Auditorium in Jayanagar. Ms. Chitra Visveswaran, who also trained in Western ballet in the U.K., is a leading Bharatanatyam dancer. Ms. Aditi is known for using the strength of Kathak with contemporary touches of her own. Her performance delighted the audience. For theatre lovers there was "Playland" staged at Ranga Shankara in JP Nagar. It is a play set against the last years of apartheid in South Africa and was presented by Rafiki, a theatre group of Bangalore that works extensively with street children. A more professional production was "Erendira and her Heartless Grandmother" presented by Amal Allana, Chairperson of the National School of Drama. The Hindi play is based on a story by Nobel Prize winning author Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Ms. Allana is known for her research in traditional Indian and Japanese theatre. Apart from these cultural events, magic shows were held at Cubbon Park. Others lined up to have a taste of various kinds of adventure sports in a part of Palace Grounds.
