KOCHI: The Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) will strengthen its examination system to check duplication of certificates issued by the university. Security measures in connection with the conduct of examination and publication of results will be tightened. A strict surveillance will be carried out while awarding degree certificates and mark lists to students.
Comprehensive system
A comprehensive system will be in place to check incidents of forgery of mark lists and degree certificates. The latest move is a follow-up of the steps taken by the university after it was reported that a B.Tech student had forged a provisional certificate to get a job in an IT company in Chennai. A syndicate sub-committee will come up with recommendations on plugging the loopholes in the existing system of awarding mark lists and certificates.
Report this month
The sub-committee on matters related to examinations will submit its report within a month. The syndicate had earlier welcomed the decision for a Crime Branch inquiry into the certificate scam. To check tampering, the university is now issuing original hologram degree certificates. The hologram certificate has a custom designed coloured border besides a bar code with number for scanning, storing and reading purposes. The university logo is given in crimson red colour on the top-middle portion of the certificate.
Hologram
The new certificate has got an original authentic hot foil stamped hologram (rainbow coloured) affixed on the left hand top corner on the face of all degree/diploma certificates. The "original" mark appears when it is shown in light. University name and place is embossed from the back to make it more secure. Watermark of the university logo will be seen on the middle of the certificate.
