Rubber suppliers call for settlement with Dunlop

KOCHI:
The Cochin Rubber Merchants' Association here has welcomed the reopening of the Dunlop factories at Sahgunj and Ambattur.
In a press release on Wednesday, N. Radhakrishnan, president of the Association, said it is good news for both the employees of these factories and also the factory's suppliers and customers. The liability of Dunlop to rubber dealers in Kerala works out to Rs.20 crores over the last eight years, it said.
Rubber dealers in Kerala, the president said, welcomed the move to reopen the factories. He said that the erstwhile management of the company had given an undertaking to the bankers that the arrears would be cleared with accrued interest. However, banks had initiated recovery procedures against rubber suppliers.
