17 hurt in accident

Nellore: Seventeen persons were injured when an RTC bus rammed into a tractor trolley at Indira Nagar on Vinjamoor-Duttaloor main road on Tuesday. According to information, the incident reportedly occurred when the driver tried to avoid a truck. - Staff Reporter

Relief kits for flood-hit

KADAPA: Indian Red Cross Society, Hyderabad, on Wednesday sent relief material for distribution among flood victims of Kodur ST Colony. Exams from Dec. 16

Nellore: The half-yearly examination in all schools of the district will be held from December 16. According to a communication issued by the Education Department, the examination will be from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. for classes VI, VIII and X and from 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. for classes VII, IX and X. For Christian managed institutions holidays will be from December 23 to January 1 and for others, from January 7 to January 16. - Staff Reporter

ST panel member to tour Nellore

Nellore: Member of the National Commission on Scheduled Tribes, New Delhi, Booduru Srinivasulu, will tour Nellore district from December 12 to December 18. During his stay he will visit girijan inhabited areas in Seetaramapuram, Udayagiri, Vinjamoor and other mandals. On December 16, he will hold a meeting with girijan students and on December 17, he will have a review with the district administration. - Staff Reporter

KADAPA: Mala Mahanadu will launch a signature campaign and send telegrams to the Central Government from December 10 to 14 decrying the latter's unilateral move to amend Article 341 of the Constitution, to uphold micro-classification of SCs. - Staff Reporter

Escape police net

Nellore: The attempt of Tamil Nadu police to nab some persons allegedly involved in a double murder and dacoities has proved futile. Based on information the Tamil Nadu police rushed to Venkatachalasatram mandal in Nellore district to nab the accused, but when they reached the place they found out that the persons they wanted had already left, obviously after being alerted. - Staff Reporter

KURNOOL: Medical representatives led by Andhra Pradesh Medical and Sales Representatives Union will go on strike on December 14, 15 and 16. National secretary of the federation S. Sukumar said the Government had taken retrograde steps that would hurt the public. The union urged the Government to institute a high-level probe into the drugs manufacture and price policy. - Staff Reporter

YSR to head PV foundation

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has agreed to be Chairman of the P.V. Narasimha Rao Foundation being set up by the Swami Ramananda Tirtha Memorial Committee.

Judicial custody for six naxals

KADAPA: Junior Civil Judge of Badvel Satyavani on Wednesday remanded six Janashakti leaders, including Kadapa-Chittoor districts' joint secretary Shaik Nazeer Basha alias Pradeep, to judicial custody till December 22.

Nazeer Basha and five others were produced in court in the murder of Kalasapadu mandal Congress president S.V. Rami Reddy a few months ago. - Staff Reporter

Four Janashakti men arrested

Sangareddy: The Siddipet police took into custody four Janashakti Dalam members on Wednesday from a roadside dhaba near Ponnala on Rajiv Rahadari.

According to Siddipet DSP Ramnarayan Reddy, dalam leader Bhumalingam alias Manganna, Pantam Ravi, Pantam Bhaskar and Pantam Lakshman were held. Some kit bags were also seized from them. - Staff Reporter

Arms dump unearthed

Sangareddy: The Medak police have recovered a dump of heavy explosives near Lingampally village under the Kowdipally police station limits on Wednesday.

On information that Maoists were regrouping on the occasion of the week-long Guerrilla Army formation anniversary, the police intensified their search in Toopran area during which they found a fertilizer bag near a culvert containing unidirectional bomb weighing 10 kg, a landmine, 50 electric detonators, 21 gelatin sticks, a cylinder bomb, etc. Later, the bombs were defused. - Staff Reporter

Namibian team visits ANGRAU

HYDERABAD: A four-member Namibian delegation, led by Agriculture Minister Nickey Iyambo,

visited Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University on Wednesday and discussed various educational, research and extension programmes with officials.

Dr. Iyambo explored the possibility of the university training agricultural scientists from his country.

S. Raghu Vardhan Reddy, Vice-Chancellor, suggested that Namibia could sponsor students for higher studies by deputing through the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. - Special Correspondent

APPSC exam for gazetted posts

HYDERABAD: The written examination conducted by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission for gazetted posts (general recruitment) will be held on January 29. Harpreet Singh, secretary, said in a press release that the posts were announced in the notification no. 12/2004. - Special Correspondent

Vain bid to steal temple valuables

Nellore: Miscreants made an abortive attempt to steal valuables from the ancient Sivalayam in Kaluvoy village on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, unidentified persons took away Rs. 8,000 from the hundi of Pydamma temple in Venkatachalasatram mandal. - Staff Reporter

BSF constable posts

HYDERABAD: Three hundred and five posts of constable (general duty) of the 523 posts in the Border Security Force are to be selected from Andhra Pradesh.

A press release said candidates should send applications in the prescribed pro forma before January 14 with a passport-size photograph and Rs. 50 postal order (for general and OBC candidates only), payable in favour of DIC STC BSF, Yellahanka, Bangalore. - Special Correspondent
