KHAMMAM: The CPI district committee took out a protest rally in Khammam on Wednesday as part of the call given by the State unit demanding that the Government take up irrigation projects in Telangana region with priority. Led by the party national council member V. Chowdhury, district secretary Kunamneni Sambhasiva Rao, Sidhi Venkateswarlu and a host of other leaders, the rally passed through the Wyra road and culminated in a demonstration in front of the Collectorate. Addressing the rallyists, Mr. Chowdhury said that Telangana districts were being subjected to neglect by the consecutive Governments and the present Government was no exception to it. He said that the Telugu Desam Party, which was in rule for nine years paid a high price for neglecting the backward areas. He said that the CPI would go all out in its fight for Telangana projects. Mr. Sidhi Venkateswarlu said that there was a yawning gap between the words and deeds of Chief Minister Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. He said his promises to the Telangana region turned out to be mere lip service. He also stressed the need for implementing GO. No. 610.
