WAY TO GO: Vega Auto's pocket bike.
Belgaum: Vega Auto Accessories Pvt. Ltd. will launch Pocket Bikes, a compact Moto Grand Prix motorcycle meant for racing purpose on go-kart tracks, in Belgaum on December 25. This tiny off-load racing bike, imported from Italy, is not meant for the commercial market at the moment but only in 2007. Until then, it will be used as an instrument for creating awareness on the importance of headgears and besides encouraging pocket bike racing. Vega Auto, which manufactures motorcycle crash fibre glass helmets, has also acquired land to construct a go-kart racing track near Desur, about 20 km from here. The entire range is certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards and approved by the Department of Transport Standard of the U.S. with an ISO-9001 certification, according to Swapnil Mehta, manager sales of the company. At present, Vega Auto is launching two versions of pocket bikes, Plata (39.9 cc) and Ducati (39.6 cc), priced at Rs. 80,000 and Rs. 1.60 lakhs. There are bigger versions of the bike that cost up to Rs. 3.50 lakhs.
