DHARWAD: Governor T.N. Chaturvedi has called upon teachers to contribute towards empowerment of women by giving importance to education of girls. Speaking at the valedictory function of a seminar on "Interlinks in Indian Languages" at the K.S. Jigalur Arts and S.M. Seshagiri Women's College here on Wednesday, the Governor said although awareness had increased regarding rights of women and women's empowerment, the improvement in the status of women was not up to the mark. Mr. Chaturvedi felt that educational institutions, educational experts, social workers have to actively participate in endeavours meant to improve the status of women. Elaborating on the various programmes implemented by various States, the Governor suggested adopting those programmes in the State. Highlighting the importance of language in building bondages and preserving unity in diversity, Mr. Chaturvedi underscored the need for respecting other languages. "One has to come out of the wrong notion that your anger towards another language expresses your love for your mother tongue," he said. Writer Sarojini Shintri, Veena Sankanagoudar, Bharati Hiremath, D.M. Biradari and Chandranna Hubballi were present.
