BJP stalls Assembly over MLA's killing

Party playing politics over the issue: Mulayam

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Thursday witnessed another day of bedlam as BJP members forced adjournment for the entire day over the killing of party legislator Krishnanand Rai on November 29.

However, amid noisy scenes, created by the BJP members and countered by the treasury bench, the government tabled the second supplementary Budget for the current financial year along with two new Bills for UP Rural Medical Sciences and Research Institute at Saifai (Etawah) and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law Institute.

The supplementary Budget amounted to over Rs 1,362 crores.

The BJP members continued to stall the proceedings by trouping into the well of the House raising anti-government slogans demanding a CBI probe into the MLA's killing.

Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav charged them with safeguarding the criminals and having nexus with them.

Alleging that the BJP was trying to play politics on the issue, the Chief Minister said when the House was ready to discuss the issue then why the party was shying from it. ``If during the discussion, the House recommends for CBI probe then the government will have no objection in going for it.''

Charging the BJP with obstructing the ongoing probe into the MLA's murder, the Chief Minister claimed the culprits would have been arrested by now, but the party was obstructing it at all steps. ``The dog squad could not be taken to the incident site for their obstruction,'' the CM claimed.

Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey tried to pacify the BJP members and asked them to take their seats as he had accepted a two-hour long debate on the killing on Friday.
