He is accused of involvement in the BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai murder

Ghazipur:
Afzal Ansari, Samajwadi Party MP and brother of controversial MLA Mukhtar Ansari, surrendered before a district court on Thursday which remanded him to 14 days' judicial custody in connection with the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai.
Afzal, one of 10 accused named in the FIR, surrendered before Chief Judicial Magistrate P.K. Yadav, who sent him to judicial custody for 14 days. Afzal is the second accused to surrender in the case after Ejaz Ahmed, brother-in-law of independent MLA from neighbouring Mau district, Mukhtar. While he was on way to surrender, students of Swami Sahjanand Post Graduate Degree College attacked Afzal's cavalcade and showed black flags here. Several vehicles were damaged in the attack but no injuries were reported.
