Cabinet nod for U.N. Convention against Corruption
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
The Union Cabinet on Thursday gave its approval for the signing of the United Nations Convention against Corruption at the U.N. headquarters in New York and for initiating the process of enacting necessary enabling legislation before approval for ratification of the Convention.
The Convention was open to all member-States for signature from December 9 to 11, 2003 at Merida in Mexico and is now again open for signature. A total of 118 countries have already signed it. Of them, 19 have also ratified it
Union Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi said that by signing the Convention, India would project its objective of zero tolerance against corruption internationally and this in turn would promote international relations and trade development.
