Buddhadeb prefers `worker' to `labour'
Kolkata:
Marxist leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Thursday said he preferred the word `worker' to `labour,' as the latter smacked of slavery.
"I do not like the word labour. The word smacks of slavery. Worker is the real term," he said at an interactive session during `Infocomm 2005', an ICT exposition organised by Nasscom here. Mr. Bhattacharjee said he "will take up the issue with the Centre."
He reassured the IT and ITES industry that his government would not allow dislocation and disruption in these sectors, which were already declared a public utility service. As IT and BPO units were required to work on a 24X7 basis, one must seriously think whether agitations should be allowed in the industry.
