DHAKA: At least eight persons were killed and more than 100 were injured, many of them seriously, when a series of powerful bombs exploded by a group of suicide bombers in a northeastern town on Thursday. The suicide blasts, a new addition to the rising Islamist militancy, hit the local office of Udichi, a leading cultural organisation. The rapidly fatal bomb culture was introduced in the country when the traditional cultural organisation was first targeted in 1999 when militants attacked one of its events in Khulna killing 12 persons. Jamaa'tul Mujahideen (JMB), a banned outfit, is suspected to be behind the blasts. More than 20 persons including judges, lawyers and police died and more than 200 persons, most of them commoners, were injured in repeated blasts across the country in past two months alone.
