Fog delays Microsoft chairman's departure from Delhi
|
CHENNAI:
N887-WM, a U.S.-registered Canadian-made executive jet was the cynosure of all eyes on Thursday as it landed here with a 10-member contingent from Microsoft led by its chairman, Bill Gates.
The 14-seater GLEX aircraft with Captain Mark Mcintyre in command flew the world's richest man into Chennai. Gates' flight took off from New Delhi after a nearly two-hour delay due to fog over the airport, and landed in Chennai at five past noon.
An Airports Authority of India jeep guided the aircraft to Bay No. 51 where an Indian Airlines coach was waiting to transport Mr. Gates to VIP Gate No. 1. Bulletproof vehicles were at hand to transport him into the city.
Mr. Gates, his wife, Melinda, and the rest of the entourage are staying at Hotel Taj Coromandel.
Mr. Gates and his team are expected to leave Chennai airport by Friday noon.
