Emson Medicals, a drug shop in Chennai won the `Welcome Wasim' contest in which 30 chemists and retailers participated. The winner got to meet Wasim Akram, the former Pakistani fast bowler, who has become the brand ambassador for a sugar monitoring machine made by Roche Diagnostics. Wasim was chosen as the ambassador to create awareness about the rising incidence of diabetes and its management through effective self - monitoring. The programme aims at imparting information to the people about the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle, that can help in the control and management of diabetes. Wasim is a role model to promote its cause as he has "emerged triumphant" despite living with diabetes in the prime of his cricketing career," says a company release. R. Sujatha
