KADAPA: District Congress Committee President A. Amarnath Reddy on Thursday gave away ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakhs each by way of cheques to the bereaved families of two Congress activists Chappidi Ramakrishna Reddy and Gajjela Gangi Reddy, who died in Velpula firing during filing of nomination for cooperative elections.

Kadapa District Congress Committee raised the money by way of donations on behalf of the party, Mr. Reddy said and assured the party's assistance and cooperation to the two families, who lost their

    bread-winners.

Speaking to newsmen at Vempalle, the DCC President assured to reconstitute the party's new district and mandal committees in a week.

The district committee would be smaller than that of the previous one and would be constituted in consultation with MPs, MLAs and senior Congress leaders, he said. Those sincerely striving for the party's progress would be rewarded with suitable posts, he said.

Members of the committees would act as coordinators between the Government and the people and propagate the Government's welfare and developmental programmes, Mr. Amarnath Reddy said. YSR Government rule was much better than previous regimes, he claimed.

The Government was extending free power supply to agriculturists in the State in an unprecedented manner, he said.

TDP was resorting to Goebel's propaganda although CBI gave a clean chit to Congress leaders Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, Gangula Bhanumati, Panchayat Raj Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy and IPS officer R.P. Meena in TDP legislator Paritala Ravi's murder case, the DCC chief alleged.

He decried TDP's slander campaign against the Government and the CBI.

The Government was striving to bring vegetable prices under control. Vempalle ZPTC member S.F. Basha and leader Reddaiah, also took part.
