DINDIGUL: About 400 residents of Mookiahgoundanpatti and Pallapatti on Thursday laid a siege to the village administrative office in Thadikombu near here, demanding relief and release of the ward councillor from the police. Getting no relief either from the government or voluntary organisations till date, the villagers had coerced ward councillor S. Nagappan to take efforts to get relief from the government. The councillor, along with a group of villagers, came to the VAO office, and sought relief to the affected people. The village administrative officer, Palanisamy, said it was not the job of a councillor to seek relief and asked him steer clear of his office. Irked by his reply, the councillor and villagers argued with the VAO for a long time. Later, Palanisamy lodged a complaint at the Thadikombu police station stating that the councillor did not allow him to discharge his duty. The police secured the councillor and detained him at the station.
Road roko
The villagers laid siege to the village administrative office condemning the lethargic attitude of the VAO and autocratic behaviour of the police. If the government failed to provide relief, they would resort to road picketing on Friday, they said. Later, the police let the councillor out.
