Staff Reporter

Resentment against `anti-worker' policies

VIJAYAWADA: About 3,000 employees and executives of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited participated in protest programmes organised at BSNL Bhavan and various exchanges and offices in the district.

They were responding to a nation-wide call given by the Joint Forum of Associations and Unions of Executives and Non-executives in BSNL to show resentment against the Government for taking policies that affected BSNL, MTNL and its four lakhs of executives and non-executives.

Demonstration

The employees participated in lunch hour demonstrations and meetings. Leaders of Joint Forum of Associations and Unions J. Umamaheswara Rao, K. Prasada Rao, G. Narasimha Rao, J.V. Ramanamurthy and P. Apparao Reddy led the protest programmes.

They would hold a daylong dharna at BSNL Bhavan, Chuttugunta, on January 5 as part of the one-day nation-wide strike call. The leaders expressed concern over the decision to hike FDI ceiling in telecom sector to 74 per cent from the present 49 per cent and also the statement of the Finance Minister that profit making non-Navaratna PSUs would be disinvested.
