Water supply to be affected

NEW DELHI: Water supply will be affected in large parts of the Capital this Friday.

According to a Delhi Jal Board release, the supply will be affected in Paschim Vihar, Paschimpuri, J.J. Colony, Madipur and Multan Nagar due to repairs for water leakage.

Due to installation of a flow meter and repair work at Kali Mandir, the supply will be at a low pressure in a group of colonies, villages in Najafgarh block and adjoining area.

The supply will be available at low pressure in Patparganj Society area, East and West Vinod Nagar, Ghazipur village, Dilshad Garden, Pahari Imli, Mata Sundari Road, Minto Road, Pahari Bhojla City area, Rohini, Janta Flats Pitampura, Barwala village and Bawana due to annual flushing of booster pumping, station/reservoir/underground tanks.

Residents are advised to store sufficient quantity of water in advance.

PM's relief fund

NEW DELHI: The Central Bank of India has contributed Rs.1crore towards the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for relief and rehabilitation of earthquake victims. Bank Chairman and Managing Director H.A. Daruwalla presented the cheque to the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, Prithviraj Chavan, here.

Centre for Self Employment

NEW DELHI: Delhi Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh on Thursday inaugurated a Centre for Self Employment for Women at J.J. Colony in Khanpur here.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Singh observed that the Government must come out with a comprehensive plan to help out persons/group of persons/ non-government organisation working for uplift of women and children.

The new centre, which will train women to set up their own ventures, has been opened by an NGO, Kalyanam.

Precursor to diabetes

NEW DELHI: Delhi Medical Association president K.K.Aggarwal on Thursday said increased fatigue and repeated urge for urination could be a precursor to diabetes.

Describing diabetes as a silent killer that causes large-scale morbidity and mortality, Dr. Aggarwal said: "It is more pronounced among persons who are heavy smokers, obese and have a family history of the disease. Even a child can have it. Foot is the most vulnerable part of the body and can get exposed to the ill-affects of this disease. Any sores, boils or cuts on the foot must be constantly looked after."

Govt. gifts Rs 10,000 to woman

NEW DELHI: Shakuntala, a woman belonging to a poor family in the Capital, who gave birth to quadruplets a few days ago, on Thursday received a gift of Rs 10,000, blankets and clothes from Delhi Government.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, on hearing of the rare incident, immediately gave instructions to send assistance to the 25-year-old woman, an official spokesman said.
