Demand to simplify procedure for caste certificates

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: In a letter to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, the president of the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Harsh Vardhan, has demanded that for issuing caste certificates to persons belonging to Other Backward Classes the recommendations of any Member of Parliament, Legislator or Councillor be treated as sufficient.

Pointing out that for issuing caste certificates to persons belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes the recommendations of a Legislator or a Councillor were deemed sufficient, Dr. Vardhan said when it comes to OBCs the rules stipulate that the application be accompanied by written statements from two first class gazetted officers to the effect that they know the person seeking the caste certificate for the last three years and that he belongs to the OBC category.

In this age of unemployment, the BJP leader said, the Delhi Government should initiate a special campaign for providing jobs in the public and private sector to the OBCs and those not benefiting from the scheme should be granted sufficient loan at nominal interest so that they could become self-employed.
