Thiruvananthapuram : The city police have sent a team to Kottayam as part of the ongoing investigation into the theft of mobile handsets and handicams worth several lakhs of rupees from an electronics showroom in the city on November 25. The police team would verify two persons of Tamil origin who were recently arrested by the Kottayam West police in connection a similar theft at an electronics showroom, S. Anil Kumar, Circle Inspector, Pettah, said. The police were also verifying 14 burglaries reported in the last one year from electronics showrooms owned by the same chain in Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam and Kozhikode. The exercise was to find out whether there is any similarity in the methods of operation adopted by the thieves. The police were yet to ascertain how the thieves had entered the showroom in the early hours of November 25. They have not got a lead so far from cell phone service providers who were given the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of the stolen handsets.
