Jenny Fredy scores winner for Al Ameen

BANGALORE: Jenny Fredy scored the winner as Al Ameen beat United Mission 1-0 in the Endy Kreations conducted NIIT Cup inter-collegiate football tournament at the BUFC grounds, here on Thursday.

In the under-12 and under-14 section fixtures held concurrently, Kumarans Children Home (CBSE) had a good day with both the teams scoring emphatic victories.

Kumarans boys defeated APS Public School 3-0 with Sai Harsha (2) and Sesha Sai being the scorers, while in the under-14 section Kumarans downed East West 2-0 with Suraj and Anjin getting the goals.

In another under-14 match, BNM downed St. Joseph HS by an odd goal in three with Shahid and Wasim netting for the winners, while Mani pulling one back for St. Joseph HS.

Inter Collegiate results: St. Joseph 1 (Charan) bt Jain 0; CH RIMS 1 (Cyrus) bt Lowry Memorial 0; Vijaya P.U 3 (Madhu 2, Samratha) bt City Eng. College 0; BMS Engg 3 (Deepak, Suman, self goal) bt National College (Bsavanagudi) 1 (Abel).

Sunil prevails

Sunil Sharma cruised through to a comfortable 4-0 win over Iqbal Ahmed, while Talent Category `A' player Balaji Reddy was shocked by Vijay S. Goklani 3-4 in the State ranking senior snooker league at the McDowell hall of the KSBA here on Thursday.

Sunil Sharma won 75-1, 61-27, 54-47, 86-8 over Iqbal to top Group C and qualify for the super league along with V. Anand. Group A is interestingly poised as Ajay Bushan has recorded two victories. Balaji and Vijay have one win, one loss each.

Vijay Goklani won 27-62, 64-30, 65-26, 31-69, 65-39, 28-70, 58-52 in a hard-fought match.

Big win for Surana PUC

Surana Pre-University College scored a thumping 7-1 win over Tirumala Education Society in the Dr. Isaac Abraham Memorial hockey tournament underway at the St John's Medical college ground. V Lohith (3), BM Puneeth (2), HC Ashok and Ramesh scored for Surana PU College while Sailesh was the lone scorer for Tirumala.

In the second fixture, Surana Degree College beat St Joseph's PU College 5-0. VR Raghunath and Bipin (2 each) and Nilesh scored for Surana.

St Joseph's Commerce College beat Indian Institute of Science 3-0. Boon Achaiah scored first off a penalty corner and Cristopher and Lourds Richard scored thereafter.

St Joseph's Arts & Science College beat Tirumala Education Society 3-1 with Tirumala taking the lead after a barren first half through Rohan. St Joseph's fought back to slot three goals with Vivek scoring twice in the span of a minute and Chengappa scoring just before the final whistle.

Surana Degree College defeated host St John's 4-0 with Nilesh and Bipin Bopaiah scoring twice each.

Manjunath best

M.V. Manjunath of Muscle Planet won the Mahabalarao Memorial Cup in the State-level bodybuilding competition held at ADA Rangamandira here on Wednesday. Venkateshwara College's Deepak Amar walked away with the `Yuvashri' title for college boys.

The results (winners only): State-level: Short: K. Harish Kumar (Iron Cult); Medium: M.V. Manjunath (Muscle Planet); Tall: R. Prasad Kumar (Gold Gym); Super tall: Syed Iqbal (Beelingeshwara).

College boys: Short: Sundaramurthy (Chitrakala); Medium: C.M. Deepak (Surana); Tall: Pavan (Presidency); Super tall: Deepak Amar (Venkateshwara).

Sports meet

Shree Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College will conduct the VIE 2006 all-India invitation inter-collegiate sports meet in Bangalore from Jan.12 to 15. The events for the meet includes basketball, badminton, cricket, swimming, tennis, table tennis, football, hockey and snooker. Entries close on Dec.15. Badminton tournament

The Canara Union Charitable Trust will conduct the second Ramesh Padukone memorial inter-school badminton championship at Prakash Courts in Malleswaram from December 24 to 27. Entries close on Dec. 17. Call 23317980 for details.

School tennis

Jain International Residential School will host the CBSE Schools National tennis championship for boys and girls at its sports complex courts from Dec. 10 to 14. Apart from the top teams from five zones, two teams from the UAE and one from Saudi Arabia will be participating in the tournament.

St. Agnes College triumphs

At Mangalore, host St. Agnes College, Mangalore beat Alva's College, Moodbidri 29-11, 29-12 to win the Mangalore University inter-collegiate ball badminton tournament for women. In the semifinals, Agnes got the better of Sri Dharmasthala, Ujire 29-12, 29-27 while Alva's beat Sri Venkataramana, Karkala 29-22, 29-22. Margorie Texeira, entrepreneur gave away the prizes.

MAHE knocked out

At Manipal, host Manipal Academy of Higher Education was knocked out in the first match on day four of the South Zone inter-varsity cricket tournament here on Thursday.

The scores: GRI, Gandhigram 166 in 49.5 overs (R Rajashekar 44, MS Muthuvivekandar 36) bt MAHE, Manipal 77 in 24.1 overs (Sakthivel 4 for 13); VIT, Vellore 132 in 30.4 overs (Pradeep 59, Nasser 4 for 22) lost to NTR MU 157 for 4 (including 24 penalty runs) in 21.4 overs (Balaji 58 n.o.); JNTU, Hyderabad 174 in 47.1 overs lost to Kuvempu, Shimoga 175 for 7 in 42 overs (Rakesh 61 n.o., Pankaj 4 for 29); Periyar University, Salem 240 in 44.5 overs (Shanmukhanathan 72) bt SVI Med 66 in 17.4 overs (Thangadurai 5 for 3).
