Activist murder: TDP stalls House

Special Correspondent

Members seek reply from Home Minister on action taken

HYDERABAD: Proceedings in the Assembly were disrupted for about 20 minutes by Telugu Desam Party members who demanded that Home Minister K. Jana Reddy give a reply on the action initiated against those responsible for the murder of a party activist, Anjibabu, in Narasaraopet last month.

The resultant furore forced Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy to adjourn the House for 10 minutes but not before he warned the TDP members to behave in a dignified manner. They raised slogans and rushed into the podium demanding that the Guntur Range IG be suspended for allegedly threatening a constable who refused to issue fresh FIR in the murder case.

Irked by their conduct, the Speaker termed their action totally deplorable and charged them with holding the House to ransom.

The TDP members demanded action against the IG and arrest of the Narasaraopet DSP.

Trouble broke out when TDP member D. Narendra, raising the issue during Zero Hour, demanded a reply from the Home Minister. Mr. Jana Reddy said the Government was taking action as per law.

Not satisfied with this response, TDP members insisted upon further details.

The Speaker said they could raise the issue in a different form and seek the Government's answer. It was already listed for a short discussion under rule 304.

Legislative Affairs Minister K. Rosaiah condemned the action of the TDP members. As the din continued, the Speaker adjourned the House and invited the floor leaders of all parties for a meeting.
