CHENNAI: A woman construction worker died and two male workers injured when a wall of a building they were demolishing at Foreshore Estate collapsed on Thursday. Police said that around 2.15 p.m. some labourers went to the top floor of a building in the Oceanic Hotel premises to demolish it. While the upper stories were being demolished, a wall collapsed on Manikandan, Srinivasan and Rameswari, who were standing nearby. Rameswari died on the spot, while Manikandan sustained minor head injuries and one of Srinivasan's legs was fractured. Manikandan and Srinivasan were taken to the Government Royapettah hospital for treatment. Later, Manikandan was shifted to the Government General hospital, police said. Police said the workers were from Cheyyar. The demolition work started about two months ago. Foreshore Estate police have registered a case.
