The National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector headed by Arjun Sengupta has been asked by the Prime Minister to examine issues pertaining to greater employment generation through appropriate reforms in the labour laws.
Specifically, the Commission has been asked to prepare a paper for consideration by the Government by undertaking a review of the Indian labour laws, consistent with labour rights, in order to improve productivity, ensure greater competitiveness and generate greater employment in various sectors such as textiles, information technology and Special Economic Zones.
