Miss Agra `missing': court issues notice
Legal Correspondent
New Delhi:
The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh Government and some senior police officials on a habeas corpus petition filed by the father of Miss Agra, alleging that his daughter was kidnapped in connivance with the police and she could not be traced for over six months.
A Bench, comprising Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justice P.P. Naolekar, asked the State Government and police officials to respond to R.S. Chaudhary's petition.
Mr. Chaudhary said his daughter Kamna Chaudhary was abducted by Hemant, who claiming to be her husband, illegally kept her in confinement. He further alleged that some mediapersons had taken "obscene photographs" of the girl, in connivance with the city police and others, and blackmailing the family. He alleged that a forged marriage certificate and a CD cover, containing some nude photographs, were sent to him through courier. He was asked to pay Rs. 10 lakhs as ransom. Despite several complaints to the police, no action had been taken, he said.
