NEW DELHI: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), under the leadership of its President Y. C. Deveshwar, would accompany Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the ASEAN business and investment summit 2005, to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The summit, to be held from December 10-12, is significant as it is the First East Asia Summit to be attended by leaders from all the ten ASEAN countries besides, participation from China, Japan, Korea, India and Australia. The theme this year is "One vision, one identity, one community Beyond borders: developing ASEAN's competitive advantages.'' Dr. Singh will deliver the keynote address at the Special Leaders luncheon session on December 12. The objectives of the ASEAN business and investment summit is to foster an exchange of views and perceptions between the private sector and government within ASEAN and East Asia besides facilitating commerce and trade between the communities within the ASEAN and the East Asia regions. Another broad objective is to explore intra-and inter-ASEAN/East Asia business and investment opportunities and to bring forth the enormous investment potential of ASEAN and East Asia. The summit would also provide an interactive platform to the industry and business in the region to showcase business potential across the region. Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will inaugurate the important summit and would deliver the keynote speech on a theme titled "Engines of growth Asia and the future of world business.'' a CII release said.
