CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed school education authorities to issue hall tickets to 23 teacher education students and permit them to write examinations that are likely to commence on December 13. Justice P.D. Dinakaran passed the order on a batch of writ petitions filed by these students who were disallowed from writing the examinations on the ground that earlier writ petitions filed by their institutions had been dismissed by the High Court. The Judge also allowed their counsel, P. Chandrasekaran's plea to permit the students to sit for re-examination being conducted for students of several teacher-training institutes in the flood-affected districts of Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Tiruchi and Villupuram. He stated that after writing their first examination on November 23, students from inundated areas could not write any examinations conducted from November 24 onwards. The re-examinations are expected to commence in the second week of December, he added. The petitioners, including A. Bala Saroja of the SBG Teacher Training Institute of Mutharasanallur in Tiruchi district, submitted that many other students of the institute, who too were admitted under the management quota, had been permitted to write the examination in November.
