Paramount Airways to shift base to Chennai

To acquire 15 more Embraer jets costing Rs.148 crore each

CHENNAI
: Paramount Airways, which commenced regular flight operations from the Coimbatore airport from October 19, has decided to shift its operational base to Chennai, subject to the allotment of parking bays by the Airports Authority of India.
It has also decided to acquire 15 more Embraer jets at a cost of Rs.148 crore each with the twin-class seating configuration.
The identified family of the new generation Brazilian made aircraft are, Embraer 175-series (15 first class, 64 Business Class) and Embraer 195 (15 First Class and 84 Business Class). The fleet expansion would be through the lease option.
Paramount Airways Managing Director M.Thiagarajan told The Hindu that with more than six slots available in Chennai following Air Sahara's shift of base to Hyderabad, the airline proposed to move to Chennai.The 70-seater full business class airline began with four flights a day, and operates eight services daily, linking New Delhi and Kochi, and twice daily to Chennai with a solitary Embraer jet.
"The second Embraer aircraft is expected to be inducted in the next two weeks, paving way for further expansion of direct services out of Chennai."
