Coimbatore: An 11-year-old girl, found travelling alone on board the Coimbatore - Nagercoil Fast Passenger this morning, was handed over to the Erode railway police by fellow passengers. The passengers found the girl crying throughout the journey and she was initially reluctant to interact with any of them. An LIC official, Gopi from Peelamedu managed to make her speak and handed her over to the police. The girl was brought to Coimbatore in the afternoon. She claimed that her name was Veni (12), daughter of Vetriselvan of Subbathal layout in Rathinapuri area of Coimbatore City. The girl's father preferred a complaint with the Kattoor Police. The girl initially claimed that she was abducted in a car by a gang and was kept in custody at a house in Peelamedu. But, investigations revealed that agitated over the scolding by her parents, she left the house and boarded a train for going to her grandmother's house at Vadaserri in Nagercoil, police said. Realising that she was travelling alone, fear seemed to have gripped her, police said. However, not brushing aside the girl's claims, the special teams of the Coimbatore City Police have begun a probe to find out whether any such gangs are operating in and around the city.
