Yadava College bags men's title

MADURAI: Yadava College Madurai won the men's team championship in the Madurai Kamaraj University inter-collegiate athletic meet, which concluded on Friday.

Lady Doak College won the women's team championship.

Individual champion: Men: C. Muthuraja (Yadava College). Women: R. Devi (Lady Doak College).

Men:

100m: Al Ameen (MSSWB) 11.06s. 800m: Venkatesh (MAVMM Ayira Vysiar) 2:04.1s. Javelin: Veera Babu (Yadava) 54.60m. 400m: Mohamed Mubarak (MSSWB) 52.38s. 10,000m: Muthuraja (Yadava). Triple jump: Wilson (MSSWB) 13.18m. High jump: Palanikumar (American) 1.68m. Decathalon: Veeramani 4,564 pts. 4x100m relay: Yadava College 44.85s.

Women: 100m: Savithiri (GTN DGL) 13s. 400m: Devi (LDC) 1:07.09s. 1,500m: Deepa Saranya 6:10.47s. Triple jump: Kayalvizhi (PKN TM) 9.17m. 4x100m relay: Lady Doak College 56.92s.

Sports meet

Nearly 1000 under-16 school students from sixty schools are participating in the Thanjavur district sports meet at Thanjavur.

M. Veera Shanmugha Moni, Thanjavur district collector, inaugurated the sports and games events.

The events include athletics, hockey, basketball, football and volleyball. P. Ramaraj, chief education officer, P. Pushpa, zonal physical education inspector for women, and Thamizh Selvan, district sports officer, participated in the inauguration.
