Praveen powers past Durga Prasad

HYDERABAD: S. Praveen Kumar defeated L. Durga Prasad 38-74, 62-66, 64-56, 70-45, 64-61 in the snooker pre-quarterfinal of the fourth-leg of AP State snooker and billiards tournament at here on Friday.

Naren-Ram Kumar win

Naren Kumar and co-driver Ram Kumar of Team J K Tyre scored over Arjun Balu and Kumar Ramaswamy of Team MRF on the 4.40km super special stage Sujana Deccan Rally, which was run at the NTR Stadium run here today.

Naren Kumar clocked 4.07 min.

In the 1400cc category, Prithveen Rajan-BVS Murthy finished in 4.19 min.

Andhra gains lead

At Vijayawada, an unbeaten 98 by B. Sumanth helped Andhra score 235 for four and gain the first-innings lead at close on the second day of the three-day under-19 Cooch Behar Plate `A' league tournament at Bilaspur on Friday, according to information received here.

Jharkhand, batting first, made 201, thanks to 53 by Sikandar.

The scores: Jharkhand 201 all out (Sikandar 53) v Andhra 235 for four (B. Sumanth 98 n.o., V. Abraham 79).

Corporate league cricket

Arshad Ayub Cricket Academy will organise the first-ever First Flight Corporate League 20-20 cricket tournament from December 10. As many as 22 teams will take part in the tournament. The event will be held during weekends.

St. Andrews `A' in final

St. Andrews `A' moved into the final of the Bro John of God Trophy defeating Bhavan's by 49 runs. It will take on St. Andrews `B' in the final on December 12.

SCR triumphs

South Central Railway defeated Artillery Centre 83-57 in the final of the C. Narsi Reddy memorial basketball tournament in Hyderabad. The winner was leading 50-35 at the break.

Liju was the topscorer with 23 points, while Prasad (20) and Pankaj (17) gave him good support.

For the loser, Sukhbir Singh (25) put up a wonderful display and though Bipin Barla (15) and Rajeev Kumar (10) shone individually, Artillery failed to click as a team when it mattered most.

BHEL (Bhopal)

wins title

BHEL (Bhopal) retained the All India BHEL inter-unit hockey tournament defeating BHEL (R&D) 5-2 in the final in Hyderabad. Mohd. Yousuf put Bhopal ahead in the 10th minute through a penalty corner.

Later, Abdul Wahab struck twice in the 16th and 18th minutes to give it a 3-0 lead at the break. On resumption, R&D reduced the margin through L. Janak Kumar (1-3). But again the Bhopal outfit scored through Abid Noor.

Later, though Janak struck his second goal to make the score 2-4, Abid Noor was on target once again to complete the tally for the winner.

Ballal wins

H.D. Ballal defeated C.B. Raju 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in the 65 years & above singles semifinal of the GVK-ITF Seniors (veterans) tennis tournament in Hyderabad on Friday.

In the other semifinal, Nagaraja Rao outslugged Kesav Perumal 7-6 (7-1), 5-7, 7-2.

S. Zone sub-jr eves cricket

Bhimavaram (West Godavari) will host the South Zone sub-junior women's cricket championship from December 11 to 13. Besides host, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala will take part in the event.

AP players for World meet

Four players from Andhra Pradesh have been picked to represent India in the 20th King's Cup World Sepak Takraw championship to be held in Bangkok from December 14 to 19.

The players are: M. Vikesh Kumar, Mukram Khan, Bharath Kumar and Mahesh.

Coach: D. Srinivas. Manager: D. Ravindra.

Apology to Man Singh

R. Vijayanand, son of late treasurer of HCA R. Dayanand and representative of the Continental Cricket Club who filed criminal cases in 2002 against P.R. Man Singh, former secretary of HCA for allegedly forging letters of affiliation, tendered a written apology to the latter through a media release.

"I have been misguided in filing the above cases. I tender an apology for having caused him agony and pain besides tarnishing his image.

"I wish he would accept my sincere gesture. In the interest of the game, we have also decided to sort out the issue at the earliest," he stated.
