JPC should probe Volcker findings: Advani

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: Bharatiya Janata Party president L.K. Advani on Friday reiterated the Opposition demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the Volcker Report findings even as the Centre turned down the demand in the Lok Sabha earlier in the day.

Addressing a massive youth rally organised by the Orissa unit of the BJP Yuva Morcha here, Mr. Advani said the United Progressive Alliance Government should set up a JPC to conduct a thorough probe into the Volcker controversy. "Everyone is interested to know the truth," he said.

The BJP president also reiterated the demand for the resignation of Sonia Gandhi as Congress president. "Two yardsticks cannot be applied in the same case as both Natwar Singh and the Congress party were non-contractual beneficiaries in the deal," Mr. Advani said. He also criticised Mr. Singh for making the plea that he resigned from the Union Cabinet because the Opposition was not allowing Parliament to function.
