"Pathak report will be tabled"

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachouri told the Rajya Sabha on Friday that ``The report of the Justice Pathak Inquiry Authority [probing into the Volcker Report disclosures] will be tabled in Parliament along with the action taken report. We will do whatever is possible as the Government is keen on going into the entire matter.'' He was responding to Leader of the Opposition Jaswant Singh who demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the issue.

BJP "trauma"

``The Leader of the Opposition should not change his statements according to his convenience though we realise his party [Bharatiya Janata Party] is facing the trauma of the Uma Bharti episode,'' he added.

Mr. Jaswant Singh justified the demand on the ground that several other countries had taken similar steps.

"There is no reason why we should feel shy,'' he said, adding that "you will have a majority in the JPC and there should be no apprehension that the Opposition will ride roughshod over your viewpoint.''

"A good idea"

His arguments found no takers. Amar Singh (Samajwadi Party) found the proposal a good idea, which, he said, should have been articulated earlier. Nilotpal Basu CPI (M) was surprised over the non-inclusion in the probe of other beneficiaries and said the Government had neglected the international ramifications of the issue while concentrating on the internal dimensions.
