Srikakulam: Strongly opposing the bhoomi pooja by the Minister for Revenue and Rehabilitation Dharmana Prasada Rao for the Vamsadhara Project reservoir at Parapuram, scheduled for Sunday, the State unit secretary of Projects Oustees Committee B. Tulasidas said that such a step would violate provisions in the RR (Relief and Rehabilitation) package announced by the Government.
Quantum of compensation
Speaking to newsmen at the CPI (M) party officer here on Friday, Mr. Tulasidas said that as per the provisions, the RR package should be made public in all village panchayats within 90 days of publication of notification of the project. Objection should be sent to the Government within 30 days and the same should be published in the gazette within 45 days. "But nothing has been done by the officials. This only shows that the Government is not interested in implementing the RR package. The quantum of compensation for the acquired lands has also not been finalized," he said. Referring to the assertion of officials that only bhoomi pooja would be performed and no other work taken up, Mr. Tulasidas asked, if that was the case, where was the need for performing the pooja in the first place. Similar announcements were made by the officials in case of Polavaram project, but they went ahead with the execution of the project. He urged farmers, farm labourers, dalits and all concerned to oppose the bhoomi pooja.
