Chennai: Inclement weather allowed only 32 minutes of play on the first day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group `A' contest between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Friday. On a day of dark skies and a persistent drizzle, Tamil Nadu, inserted, made 20 without loss in 5.5 overs. Openers Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan (15) and C. Hemant Kumar (2) were at the crease when bad light stopped play at 10.22 a.m. Vidyut produced a sparkling straight drive off paceman Vinay Kumar, while for Karnataka, Dodda Ganesh was able to achieve some movement. Tamil Nadu skipper Hemang Badani was left frustrated at the weather. "This is a vital game for us. We lost more than two days against Gujarat in Tirunelveli, but still managed to gain the lead. Now we have rain again." Karnataka manager J. Abhiram was a disappointed man too: "This is a tough group. We need to win points." For Tamil Nadu, S. Sharath, R. Ramkumar and G. Vignesh came in for Anirudh Srikkanth, R. Naresh and D. Tamilkumaran. Bharat Chipley and Dodda Ganesh replaced Stuart Binny and C. Raghavendra in the Karnataka side. The scores: Tamil Nadu 1st innings: Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan (batting) 15; C. Hemant Kumar (batting) 2, Extras (nb-3) 3, Total (for no loss) 20. Karnataka bowling: Vinay Kumar 3-0-16-0, Ganesh 2.5-1-4-0.
