`Fanoos' likely to cross the coast by noon today

Rain likely in many places in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry

CHENNAI : Cyclonic storm `Fanoos' is likely to cross the coast between Pondicherry and Vedaranyam by Saturday noon.

On Friday evening (7.30 p.m.), the storm over southwest Bay of Bengal lay centred about 200 km east of Nagapattinam. It is likely to move in a west-north-westerly direction. Rain is likely in many places in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry on Saturday.

North coastal Tamil Nadu may experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall. South coastal parts of the State may get isolated heavy rain. Gale with wind speed reaching 70 to 80 km an hour is likely in Villupuram, Cuddalore, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Nagapattinam districts. Squally weather with wind speed reaching 50 to 60 kmph is likely off south coastal Tamil Nadu and in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts.
