Reception planned for Catholicos

PATHANAMTHITTA: The staff, students and the management of Catholicate College, the first college established by the Malankara Orthodox Church, will give a ceremonial reception to the new Catholicos of the Church Moran Mor Baselius Mar Thoma Didymos-I at the college auditorium on December 13.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the organising committee leaders, Kurien Daniel and George Varghese Koppara, said that the Catholicos would be escorted to the college auditorium from the chapel on the campus in a ceremonial procession on Tuesday forenoon.

Metropolitan of the Thumpamon diocese of the Church Philipose Mar Eusebeus will preside over the function and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Adoor Prakash will inaugurate the meeting.

The Catholicos will bless the foundation stone of the proposed Mar Philoxenos Memorial block on the campus by unveiling a granite plaque on the occasion.

Church secretary Alexander Karackal will release the college newsletter Probe on the occasion. College Principal Prasad Thomas will be among those who address the meeting.

The Minister will inaugurate the newly constructed conference hall.

Ninan Abraham, former vice-chancellor of Kanpur University, will deliver the 5th Mar Philoxenos memorial lecture on `quality concerns in higher education' at 11.30 a.m.
